House Bill 1563 Summary

• Mississippi Emergency Management Agency shall pay the state's share of matching funds required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency for tornado damage to a county-owned hospital operated by a Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity resulting from an April 2014 tornado.

• Brings forward existing disaster assistance law sections (33-15-305, 33-15-307, 33-15-311, 33-15-313, and 33-15-317) from the Disaster Assistance Act of 1972 for purposes of possible amendment.

• Establishes the Disaster Assistance Trust Fund for state and federal disaster assistance costs, including public assistance programs, hazard mitigation, and administrative expenses.

• Allows the director of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency to allocate trust fund money for state agencies' emergency response costs and to meet eligible project costs upon proper application and declaration of local emergency.

• Takes effect upon passage.
