George County and Greene County boards of supervisors are authorized to contract with the United States, other states, political subdivisions, or private correctional entities to house offenders in the George-Greene County Correctional Facility.

Eligible offenders for housing are those classified as minimum or medium security, with no history of escape, sentenced for felonies or misdemeanors consistent with American Correctional Association Standards.

Boards may enter into agreements for incarceration for time periods acceptable to all parties and may exercise all powers necessary to operate the correctional facility.

Boards may contract with the Department of Corrections or other state, federal, or local entities for facility inspection, monitoring, and maintenance assistance.

Maximum security offenders are explicitly prohibited from being housed under this authorization.
