House Bill 182 Summary

• Establishes the National Board Certified Teacher's Incentive Pilot Program to provide an additional annual salary supplement of $6,000 to licensed teachers holding National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification who work in school districts experiencing critical shortages of nationally certified teachers.

• State Board of Education must prescribe rules and regulations for the supplement program, subject to available appropriations, and determine which districts qualify based on accreditation rating, student growth rates, and the current number of nationally certified teachers employed.

• Teachers must submit proper documentation of NBPTS certification by October 15 to receive the full supplement in the current school year, or by February 15 for a prorated supplement beginning the second term.

• The $6,000 supplement is in addition to the existing $6,000 annual salary supplement already authorized for NBPTS-certified teachers under current law, and teachers may only receive one $6,000 supplement regardless of multiple national certifications.

• Effective July 1, 2016.
