School attendance officers must visit the home or place of residence of a compulsory-school-age child within 72 hours of an unexcused absence to consult with the parent or legal guardian

The bill amends existing law to require actual visitation (in-person contact) rather than simply contacting the home when a child is absent without a valid written excuse

If the child is found in a location other than the home or residence, the officer must notify parents and school officials of where the child was physically located

The bill takes effect July 1, 2016
