House Bill 389 Summary

• Authorizes issuance of distinctive motor vehicle license tags for supporters of 10 organizations: Sacred Heart Catholic School, Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants, Mississippi Public Broadcasting, Coahoma Community College Foundation, Dallas Cowboys, Canton High School, Prevent Child Abuse Mississippi, One Coast, Murrah High School Alumni Association, and Mississippi Sickle Cell Foundation.

• Establishes $30 annual fee for most distinctive tags ($50 for Dallas Cowboys tag), with $24 distributed to the respective organization and remaining funds allocated to Mississippi Burn Care Fund ($1), State Highway Fund ($2), and a special fund ($1).

• Tax collectors retain $2 per tag application and remit remainder to Department of Revenue monthly; replacement tags cost $10 with 5% retained by tax collector.

• Reauthorizes existing distinctive tags for American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association Mississippi Chapter, and MIND Center at University of Mississippi Medical Center, extending expiration dates to July 1, 2019.

• Effective July 1, 2016.
