Removes the prohibition on parole eligibility for inmates sentenced for trafficking in controlled substances under Section 41-29-139(f), allowing them to be considered for parole at age 60 or older after serving at least 10 years.

Renumbers subsequent parole eligibility restrictions (sex crimes and service of one-fourth of sentence) to account for the deletion of the drug trafficking prohibition.

Applies to persons sentenced on or after July 1, 2016, with the effective date of the act.

Maintains all other parole eligibility restrictions including those for crimes of violence, sex crimes, habitual offenders, and persons with sentences that specifically prohibit parole.
