HB 830 Summary

• Expands the State and School Employees Health and Life Insurance Plan to include active county and municipal employees, including elected officials, for health insurance participation only (not life insurance).

• Eliminates state cost-sharing for county and municipal employee health insurance coverage, requiring counties and municipalities to pay the full premium amount equal to what they would pay under existing county/municipal insurance programs.

• Allows counties or municipalities to pay to the state an amount equal to the cost of coverage they would otherwise provide under Sections 25-15-101 through 25-15-105.

• Redefines "retiree" to include retired county or municipal employees and elected officials who participated in the health insurance program for at least 20 years before retirement.

• Takes effect July 1, 2016.
