Dr. Max K. Arinder retired on June 30, 2015, after serving as Executive Director of the Joint Legislative Committee on Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review (PEER) for 19 years.

During his tenure as Executive Director beginning in 1996, the PEER Committee issued 258 reviews of state and local government programs and Dr. Arinder participated on legislative task forces addressing mental health, transportation, and criminal justice reform.

Dr. Arinder advised the Legislature on evidence-based budgeting reforms and the Pew-MacArthur Foundation's Results First Initiative to improve program cost-benefit analysis in state government.

The PEER Committee received 14 recognitions from the National Legislative Program Evaluation Society under Dr. Arinder's leadership, and he served as the organization's staff chairperson from 2003 to 2004.

The National Conference of State Legislatures honored Dr. Arinder with the 2015 Outstanding Achievement Award for his career in program evaluation and public service to Mississippi.
