Former State Senator William C. "Son" Rhodes of Vancleave died on August 16, 2015, at age 84, having served in the Mississippi State Senate from 1972 to 1984.

Rhodes was born February 1, 1931, in Moss Point, Mississippi, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a graduate of Moss Point High School and the University of Southern Mississippi.

While in the Senate, Rhodes served as Chairman of the Oil and Gas and Marine Conservation Committees and was active in Public Health and Mississippi Gulf Coast issues.

Rhodes was a teacher, football coach, and active member of his community through various civic, religious, and fraternal organizations including the American Legion, VFW, and Elks Lodge.

The Legislature mourns his loss, commends his life and public service, and expresses sympathy to his family and survivors.
