Commends and recognizes the 189th Annual Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi for their efforts urging removal of the Confederate Battle Flag from Mississippi's state flag.

Notes that the Episcopal Diocese believes symbols are important to the church's mission and that the current flag conflicts with the baptismal covenant commitment to respect the dignity of every human being.

Urges the Mississippi Legislature to adopt a state flag that does not include the Confederate Battle Flag and instead represents, unites, and respects the dignity of all Mississippi citizens.

Requests such action be taken prior to the 2017 observance of Mississippi's bicentennial and the opening of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum.

Directs that copies of the resolution be furnished to Bishop Brian R. Seage and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
