MS SB2124

Creates a new felony offense for knowingly and willfully threatening a public official or law enforcement officer, or their immediate family members, with bodily harm, sexual assault, confinement, restraint, or property damage

Defines "public official" as elected officials, appointed officials with statutory duties, candidates who have filed for office, and sworn law enforcement or peace officers

Requires threats against law enforcement officers to contain specific facts indicating a unique threat to that individual, not just generalized threats of harm

Threat must be related to the official's performance of public duties, hostility toward their position, or other factors connected to their public role

Punishment upon conviction includes a fine up to $10,000, imprisonment of 3-7 years in Department of Corrections custody, or both
