Changes Section 37-9-49 to authorize school superintendents to deduct professional association dues from salaries of superintendents, principals, teachers, and other employees, replacing the prior prohibition on such deductions.

Requires written authorization from the employee before any professional association dues deduction can be made.

Permits school boards to develop policies and procedures for implementing the voluntary dues deduction process.

Maintains existing authority to deduct health association dues and tax-sheltered annuity deductions authorized by the Internal Revenue Code upon written employee authorization.

Effective July 1, 2016.
