MS SB2398

Amends Mississippi Code Section 29-3-27 to allow consolidation of multiple forested sixteenth section lieu land parcels (each less than 160 acres, not exceeding 320 acres total) for significant timber industry research and development.

Requires consolidated parcels to be located in the same county as the controlling school district and to originate from Indemnity List 1 of School Sections approved February 26, 1859.

Expands the definition of "industrial development" to include the consolidation and utilization of these forested parcels for timber management and research purposes.

Changes reporting requirement from the State Land Commissioner to the Secretary of State, with reports to be submitted to the State Forestry Commission within 90 days of any sale and purchase.

Sunsets this provision on December 31, 2016.
