Amends Section 97-37-5 of Mississippi Code to revise penalties for possession of firearms and certain weapons by convicted felons.

Increases mandatory minimum prison sentence to 5-10 years (up from 1-10 years) for individuals convicted of firearm possession who were convicted of a felony of violence or drug felony within the previous five years.

Prohibits probation, suspended sentences, and parole eligibility for those sentenced under the enhanced penalty provision for firearm possession by repeat violent or drug offenders.

Maintains existing exceptions allowing possession with a pardon, federal relief of disability, or state certificate of rehabilitation.

Takes effect July 1, 2016.
