Amends Section 47-5-173 of the Mississippi Code to modify procedures for granting temporary leave to offenders for family sickness/death or employment seeking (up to 10 days).

Removes the automatic requirement that offenders granted leave for family sickness or death must be accompanied by a correctional officer or law enforcement officer.

Grants the Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Corrections or designees discretion to determine whether a security escort is necessary for all leave cases.

Requires the Department to continue giving 15 days written notice prior to offender release on leave, except in family sickness/death cases where notice is not required.

Effective date: July 1, 2016.
