MS SB2603

Amends Mississippi Code Section 21-3-7 to allow municipalities with populations of 500 or fewer to elect three aldermen instead of five.

Any reduction from five aldermen to three aldermen requires approval by a majority of qualified electors voting in a special election held for that purpose.

Maintains existing requirements that municipalities with populations under 10,000 elect five aldermen and those with 10,000 or more elect seven aldermen, except where the new three-aldermen option applies.

Takes effect July 1, 2016.
