Public and private employers are prohibited from establishing policies that ban employees from transporting or storing firearms in locked vehicles in parking lots or designated parking areas.

Private employers with restricted-access parking areas (gated or security-controlled) may prohibit firearm storage only if they provide either temporary secure locked storage for unloaded firearms or alternate nearby parking for employees with firearms in locked personal vehicles.

The law does not apply to vehicles owned or leased by employers and used by employees for business purposes.

Employers are granted civil immunity and cannot be held liable for damages arising from transportation, storage, possession, or use of firearms covered under this section.

The act takes effect July 1, 2016.
