MS SB2741

Adds enhanced penalty for simple assault occurring on educational property or at any youth function: fine up to $1,000 or up to nine (9) months in county jail, or both.

Increases penalty from standard simple assault (maximum $500 fine or six months jail) to the enhanced penalty when assault happens at schools or youth events.

Applies to simple assault only; does not modify penalties for aggravated assault or domestic violence offenses.

Takes effect July 1, 2016.
