Recognizes and commends Dr. William Smith, Department Chair for Economic Development Tourism and Sport Management and Interim Chair of Marketing and Merchandising at University of Southern Mississippi, upon his retirement.

Dr. Smith joined USM faculty on August 20, 1979, and served for 37 years, teaching thousands of students in marketing, sales, economic development, and related business disciplines.

Held multiple administrative positions including Coordinator of British Studies (1995), Assistant Dean for Corporate Relations (2000-2003), Director of Graduate Programs (2004-2005), and department chair roles (2013-2016).

Received Excellence in Teaching Award from USM, South Central Bell Outstanding Faculty Member Award (twice), and Distinguished Marketing Award from Sales and Marketing Executives International.

Served on numerous community organizations and provided free consulting services to businesses and organizations throughout Mississippi and the Gulf South region.
