Houston Vocational Center's "Sundancer" solar car team completed and won the World Solar Car Challenge Adventure Class in Adelaide, Australia on October 24, 2015, as the first high school vehicle to achieve this feat.

Sundancer raced 2,795 solar kilometers (1,736 miles) of the 3,022-kilometer course from Darwin to Adelaide, finishing significantly ahead of the nearest competitor Liberty Christian School with 2,472 solar kilometers.

The team set a World Solar Challenge record for most miles raced by a high school team in a single day with 407 kilometers (252 miles) between Coober Pedy and Port Augusta.

The 14-member team led by Team Captain Allyson Taylor and Advisor Keith Reese previously won the Dell-Winston National Solar Car Challenge multiple times and competed internationally in Australia in 2003.

The Senate and House commend the Houston "Sundancer" Solar Car Race Team for bringing attention to alternative energy and solar technology education programs.
