Requires dispensers and prescribers of controlled substances (Schedule II-V) and specified noncontrolled drugs to check the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) database before dispensing or prescribing.

Pharmacists licensed by the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy must register as PMP users, with failure to register subject to disciplinary action.

Pharmacists or practitioners who knowingly fail to obtain drug-monitoring information before dispensing or prescribing controlled substances face license actions, administrative penalties, or both.

Maintains confidentiality of PMP data and restricts access to authorized users including pharmacists, practitioners, law enforcement, regulatory boards, Medicaid, and individuals requesting their own information.

Takes effect July 1, 2017.
