Amends Section 99-19-81 of the Mississippi Code to allow an indictment or amendment charging a person as a violent habitual criminal to simultaneously charge them as a nonviolent habitual offender without requiring a separate amendment or reindictment.

Applies to individuals convicted of a felony who have two prior felony or federal crime convictions from separate incidents, each resulting in sentences of one year or more in state or federal prison.

Violent habitual criminal charges under Section 99-19-83 now serve as sufficient basis for nonviolent habitual offender charges under Section 99-19-81 in the same indictment.

Effective July 1, 2017.
