Exempts retail sales of school supplies priced under $100 from sales tax during a period beginning at 12:01 a.m. on the first Friday in August and ending at 12:00 midnight the following Saturday.

Defines "school supplies" as items commonly used by students in courses of study, including a comprehensive list of 42 specific items such as backpacks, binders, calculators, notebooks, pencils, pens, paper, and textbooks.

Allows municipalities to suspend this exemption within their corporate limits by adopting a resolution and notifying the Department of Revenue at least 90 days in advance, effective January 1, 2018 or later.

Does not apply to taxes levied under other specific Mississippi Code sections and does not affect existing tax claims, assessments, or appeals accrued before the act's effective date.

Takes effect July 1, 2017.
