Requires school attendance officers to conduct actual home visitations within 72 hours of a compulsory-school-age child's unexcused absence from school for consultation with the parent or legal guardian.

Modifies existing duties of school attendance officers to specify that contact with families regarding absences must occur through "actual visitation" rather than other forms of contact.

Requires school attendance officers to notify parents and school officials of the child's physical location if found in a place other than the home or residence during the follow-up visit.

Maintains existing requirements that school attendance officers must have a college degree in a behavioral science or related field, or three years of combined experience in teaching, administration, law enforcement, or social work.

Takes effect July 1, 2017.
