Amends Section 43-21-621 of Mississippi Code to restrict superintendent discretion in assigning students who committed violent acts to alternative school programs.

Limits the superintendent's discretionary authority to assign a student to an alternative school program only when the violent act occurred on school property, as defined in Section 37-11-29(3).

Requires superintendents to assign students to regular school settings with the general student population if the violent act was committed off school property.

Defines "violent act" as any action resulting in death or physical harm to another person or an attempt to cause such harm.

Takes effect July 1, 2017.
