Employees of agencies, businesses, schools, or organizations in Mississippi may dial 911 in emergency situations without first contacting a supervisor.

Employers are prohibited from terminating or punishing employees who call 911 directly during emergencies.

Employers must provide written notice of these provisions to all employees.

First violation is punishable by a fine up to $5,000 and/or imprisonment up to one year; subsequent violations are punishable by a fine up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment up to three years.

Act takes effect upon passage.
