Amend Section 23-15-299 to require all candidates seeking party nominations and independent/special election candidates to obtain a Letter of Compliance from the Mississippi Department of Revenue proving current compliance with all state taxes before qualifying for office.

Letter of Compliance must be submitted as part of the written statement accompanying candidate filing fees and assessments for nominations and elections.

Bring forward Sections 23-15-309, 23-15-359, and 23-15-361 regarding municipal elections and candidate qualification procedures for potential amendment.

Maintain existing candidate qualification deadlines (5:00 p.m. on March 1 or statutory qualifying deadline, whichever is earlier) and existing fee requirements for party and independent candidates.

Take effect July 1, 2017.
