Mississippi Transportation Commission may require contractors to provide law enforcement safety operations in work zones on high-volume roadways or high-risk projects through contract provisions or bid requirements.

Contractors may enter into agreements with state, county, and municipal law enforcement agencies to provide work zone safety operations, with agencies limited to their respective jurisdictions and existing enforcement powers.

Mississippi Department of Transportation Office of Law Enforcement officers are authorized to perform work zone safety operations on high-volume roadways or high-risk projects using their existing enforcement powers and vehicle lights.

Office of Law Enforcement authority is limited to work zone safety operations and does not grant general police powers.

Effective date: July 1, 2017.
