House Bill 8 - Mississippi Minimum Wage Act

• Establishes a state minimum wage of $9.00 per hour, effective July 1, 2017, with tipped employees exempt and paid at $3.62 per hour minimum.

• Requires overtime compensation at 1.5 times the regular rate for employees earning $455 or less per week, including manual laborers, law enforcement, and workers whose primary duty is not management.

• Prohibits counties and municipalities from establishing local minimum wage rates, living wages, or mandatory vacation/sick day requirements to maintain statewide economic consistency.

• Brings forward nine existing Mississippi Code sections (7-7-204, 17-1-51, 23-15-239, 25-3-40, 37-7-307, 57-34-5, 85-3-4, 97-3-54.4, and 99-19-20) for possible amendment without substantive changes to current law.
