Mourns the loss and commemorates the life and legacy of Dr. Maria Luisa Alvarez Harvey, an educator who spent 60 years in teaching.

Recognizes Dr. Harvey's service at Jackson State University for over 40 years, where she served as the first dean of the W.E.B. Du Bois Honors College for more than 30 years.

Honors her background as a Mexican immigrant who overcame poverty and limited formal education to earn bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, including a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona and a Phi Beta Kappa key.

Acknowledges her profound impact on students who became federal judges, lawyers, physicians, surgeons, scientists, engineers, business owners, and educators.

Directs the legislature to express deepest sympathy to her family and friends, with copies of the resolution to be provided to them and the Capitol Press Corps.
