Recognizes Mississippi's bicentennial in 2017, marking 200 years since statehood was admitted to the Union.

Commemorates three key steps to statehood: the federal enabling act signed by President James Madison on March 1, 1817; the state constitution adopted on August 15, 1817; and congressional approval signed by President James Monroe on December 10, 1817, making Mississippi the 20th state.

Celebrates 200 years of Mississippi cultural and economic achievements in music, cuisine, agriculture, science, industry, and literature.

Plans bicentennial celebration events starting with a joint legislative session in January 2017 and concluding with a December gala for state and national citizens.

Directs distribution of the resolution to the Mississippi Bicentennial Commission, Secretary of State, county boards of supervisors, and Capitol Press Corps.
