Commends the life and legacy of Moran McLelland Pope, Jr., who passed away on March 2, 2017, and expresses sympathy to his family and friends.

Honors Pope's service as Mayor of Hattiesburg from 1953-1957 and his law practice spanning from 1948 into his 80s.

Recognizes Pope's extensive involvement with the University of Southern Mississippi Foundation, serving as President for more than 20 years since its 1959 inception, and his service as President of the Southern Miss Alumni Association twice.

Acknowledges Pope's contributions to Hattiesburg community development including the restoration of downtown buildings, the courthouse, and organizing cultural events such as the "Good Life Down South Festival" and C.S. Lewis Festivals.

Survived by son Randy, daughter Melinda DeRocker, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Yvonne.
