Hunting deer with dogs is prohibited except during special open seasons designated by the Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks on a statewide, regional, or local basis.

Property owners or lessees must obtain a permit from the Department to hunt deer with dogs on their tract, with permits requiring minimum acreage of 300 contiguous acres for owners or 1,000 for lessees and a $100 fee.

Hunters age 16 and older must obtain a deer-dog hunting license for $5.00 annually in addition to all other required hunting licenses and permits.

Dogs used for hunting deer must wear collars with tags displaying the owner's name, address, and telephone number, and must be identified with the permit number during hunts.

Releasing or placing a dog on public rights-of-way for deer hunting requires written permission from all landowners whose property adjoins the right-of-way within 50 feet of the release location; violations of off-property dog regulations can result in license revocation.
