Removes language from Mississippi Code Section 97-3-2(2) that prohibited parole or early release for persons convicted of crimes of violence until serving at least 50% of their sentence.

Maintains the existing list of 20 crimes classified as crimes of violence, including murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping, and other serious felonies.

Preserves judicial authority to classify other felonies (with maximum sentences of at least 5 years) as crimes of violence if the defendant used or threatened physical force against another person.

Takes effect July 1, 2017.
