MS SB2150

Amends Section 47-5-173 of the Mississippi Code to modify rules regarding security escorts for offenders on honorary leave.

Grants the Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner or designees discretion to determine whether a security escort is necessary during an offender's temporary leave.

Maintains that offenders granted leave due to sickness or death in the family are not required to have written notice given, but eliminates the automatic requirement for a correctional or law enforcement officer to accompany them.

Applies the discretionary security escort determination to all leave cases, allowing the Commissioner to assess the need based on individual circumstances.

Takes effect July 1, 2017.
