Amends Section 97-3-2 of Mississippi Code to remove language stating that persons convicted of crimes of violence are ineligible for parole or early release until serving at least 50% of their sentence.

Maintains the existing list of 20 offenses classified as crimes of violence, including murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping, and burglary of a dwelling.

Preserves the judicial discretion to classify other felonies with maximum sentences of at least 5 years as crimes of violence if the defendant used or threatened physical force against another person.

Clarifies that the "crimes of violence" designation does not automatically determine parole or early release eligibility.

Takes effect upon passage.
