County prosecuting attorney may designate a separate prosecutor to serve as youth court prosecutor if funds are available, rather than serving in that role themselves.

Designated youth court prosecutors must reside in the county and have their compensation fixed by the board of supervisors for county courts or municipal governing authority for municipal courts.

All youth court prosecutors are required to complete juvenile justice training approved by the Mississippi Attorney General's office and attend annual continuing education in juvenile justice.

Youth court prosecutors who miss two consecutive required training sessions or fail to attend one session within six months of designation shall be immediately removed and replaced by another prosecutor designated by the county prosecuting attorney.

Act takes effect July 1, 2017.
