Senate Bill 2461 Summary

• Establishes a seven-member Commission on Perry-Richton Consolidated School District Structure to review school district operations in Richton and Perry County, Mississippi and recommend consolidation methods by January 1, 2018.

• Commission composed of State Superintendent (nonvoting chair), one board member each from Perry County and Richton school districts, both superintendents, and one resident representative from each district.

• Amends Section 37-7-104.3 to clarify that special ad valorem taxes for bond repayment in the Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District shall be levied on all taxable property within the consolidated district.

• Authorizes the Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District to partner with Mississippi State University to develop a model rural education school for sixth and seventh-grade students and a model prekindergarten program.

• Takes effect July 1, 2017.
