Replace Mississippi College and Career Ready Standards (formerly Common Core) beginning with the 2017-2018 school year with ELA standards from California, Indiana, Massachusetts, Texas, or 2010 Massachusetts ELA draft standards that were rated superior in the 2010 Thomas B. Fordham Publication study.

Adopt 2010 mathematics standards from California, Florida, Indiana, or Massachusetts as alternatives to Common Core mathematics standards.

Prohibit adoption of nationally-developed curriculum standards (including Next Generation Science Standards, National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies, and others) without public hearings in each congressional district, open comment periods, and joint House-Senate Education Committee review followed by legislative action.

Require Mississippi to retain sole control over curriculum standards development and prohibit the State Board of Education, state officials, or education entities from joining consortiums or entering agreements that would cede control over education standards and assessments to outside entities or federal agencies.

Takes effect July 1, 2017.
