Amends Section 41-21-63 of Mississippi Code to allow chancery courts to commit persons with unresolved felony charges pending, subject to specific conditions.

Permits circuit courts to enter an order stating the accused has been charged with a criminal offense and is incompetent to stand trial, referring the person to chancery court for civil commitment procedures.

An order from circuit court finding incompetence to stand trial shall serve as a substitute for the affidavit normally required for commitment under Section 41-21-65.

Chancery courts gain jurisdiction over persons with pending felony charges only when referred by circuit court through the incompetence-to-stand-trial process.

Effective date: July 1, 2017.
