Candidates for municipal, county, or county district office must be residents of the jurisdiction they seek to represent for 2 years immediately preceding the election.

Candidates for state district office must be residents of their state district for 5 years immediately preceding the election.

Candidates for statewide office must be residents of Mississippi for 5 years immediately preceding the election.

Election officials or executive committees must verify residency requirements when candidates file qualifying information and may prohibit candidates who do not meet requirements from appearing on the ballot.

Establishes 5-year residency requirements for State Transportation Commission members, district attorneys, and the Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, effective July 1, 2017.
