Youth court referees will be appointed to 4-year terms instead of serving indefinitely until removed by the judge

All youth court referees appointed before January 1, 2019, will have their terms expire on December 31, 2018, with new terms beginning January 1, 2019, aligned with chancery, circuit, and county court judge terms

County boards of supervisors may authorize the senior county court judge to appoint a youth court referee at the sole expense of the county

Youth court referees appointed by a board of supervisors (rather than through the standard process) are not eligible to receive Youth Court Support Fund monies

Effective date is July 1, 2017
