SB 2828 Summary

• Enacts the EMS Personnel Licensure Interstate Compact to allow emergency medical services (EMS) personnel licensed in one member state to practice in other member states under specified conditions.

• Establishes the Interstate Commission for EMS Personnel Practice with authority to promulgate rules, maintain a coordinated database of licensure and adverse actions, and enforce compact provisions.

• Requires member states to recognize the "privilege to practice" of EMS personnel (EMTs, AEMTs, and paramedics) from other member states who meet standards including NREMT certification, current unrestricted licenses, and medical director supervision.

• Designates the Mississippi State Board of Health/Department of Health as the state EMS authority and amends existing EMS statutes to recognize interstate compact privileges alongside state certification.

• Effective July 1, 2017; compact becomes operational when tenth state enacts the legislation.
