State Board of Education must develop a home economics curriculum and course of study by the 2017-2018 school year for "D" and "F" rated school districts, including instruction in cooking, child development, home management, sewing, budgeting, and health/hygiene.

All local school districts must provide home economics programs in secondary schools of "D" and "F" rated school districts by September 1, 2017, with curricula aligned to the state board's standards.

State funding for home economics programs shall be included in the adequate education program and vocational education appropriation bills beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, with at least one instructor per school district.

The bill removes the requirement that home economics programs be subject to state board approval, replacing it with a requirement that programs be aligned with state-developed curriculum and course of study.

Effective date is July 1, 2017.
