Recognizes Cam Akers, Clinton High School quarterback, as the 2016 Gatorade Mississippi Player of the Year, announced by USA TODAY on December 12, 2016.

Acknowledges Akers' record-setting 2016 season: 3,128 passing yards and 31 touchdowns, plus 2,105 rushing yards and 34 rushing touchdowns, leading Clinton to a 14-1 record and Class 6A State Championship.

Notes Akers' additional honors: rated No. 1 player in Mississippi and No. 4 overall in the country by 247Sports Composite, U.S. Army All-American, MHSAA 6A Mr. Football Award winner, and finalist for Maxwell Football Club's National High School Player of the Year.
