Northwest Rankin High School boys soccer team defeated Ocean Springs 2-0 on February 4, 2017, to win the Class 6A State Championship at Clinton High School.

The team finished the season 23-1 and was ranked No. 1 nationally on MaxPreps.com; this is their fourth MHSAA State Championship and first 6A title since the classification was added in 2010.

Goals were scored by Kentaveun Ware in the first half and Sumner Richardson in the second half, with the team advancing to the championship game via a 3-2 overtime win over Clinton.

The concurrent resolution commends Coach Chris Gardner and the 39-member roster for bringing pride to Northwest Rankin High School, their community, and the State of Mississippi.

Resolution directs presentation of the commendation to Coach Gardner and Principal Ben Stein, forwarding to the Madison County Board of Education, and distribution to the Capitol Press Corps.
