Northwest Rankin High School Girls Soccer Team won the MHSAA Class 6A State Championship on February 4, 2017, defeating Ocean Springs 2-1 in overtime with goals by Abbi Russell and Alyssia Davis.

The team finished the season with a 21-2 record and entered the championship game ranked No. 1 in the state with a 20-2 record after a 2-1 overtime victory over Madison Central in the semifinals.

Coach Dean Joseph completed his first year at Northwest Rankin, with assistant coaches Trey Banks, Kelly McGinnis, and Carli Little supporting 23 players on the roster.

The resolution commends the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for bringing honor to Northwest Rankin High School, the Rankin County community, and the State of Mississippi.

Copies of the resolution will be presented to Coach Dean Joseph and Principal Ben Stein, forwarded to the Rankin County Board of Education, and distributed to the Capitol Press Corps.
