Florence High School "Eagles" Boys Soccer Team won the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A State Championship on February 3-4, 2017, defeating Bay High School 3-2 in a penalty kick shootout.

The Eagles finished the season with a 14-9-1 record, scoring 70 goals while allowing 39 goals, with freshman Tristan Watkins leading with 12 goals.

Key team members included goalkeeper Logan Helms (two saves in the championship shootout), and penalty kick scorers Baylor Little, Bailey Mickle, and Tanner Brunson.

The resolution commends Coach Joshua Cavanaugh, the players, coaches, parents, and sponsors for bringing honor to Florence High School and the State of Mississippi.

The resolution directs presentation of the commendation to Coach Cavanaugh, Principal Tony Martin, the Rankin County School Board, and the Capitol Press Corps.
