Recognizes World War II Veteran Lieutenant Commander George T. Mercier of Copiah County, Mississippi, on his 100th birthday (May 8, 2017)

Mercier was born May 5, 1917, in Beauregard, Mississippi; graduated from Wesson High School in 1935 and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Louisiana State University in 1939

Served in the Navy after attending Naval Officers Training School at Fort Schuyler, New York in 1941, working as an Ordnance Inspector and serving two years in the South Pacific at Espiritu Santo before transferring to the Bureau of Ordnances in Washington, D.C.

Discharged as Lieutenant Commander in March 1946 and continued serving in the Navy Reserve; married Dorothy Ragland in 1946 and has five children, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren

Extends the thanks of the State of Mississippi and the nation to Mercier for his lifetime of selfless military service as a member of the "Greatest Generation"
