Mississippi Transportation Commission may require contractors to provide law enforcement safety operations in work zones on high-volume roadways or high-risk projects through contract provisions or bid requirements.

Contractors may fulfill safety operation requirements by entering into agreements with state, county, and municipal law enforcement agencies, which may only operate within their jurisdictions and existing enforcement powers.

Mississippi Department of Transportation Office of Law Enforcement officers are authorized to perform work zone safety operations using their existing enforcement powers and vehicle lights to encourage traffic law compliance.

Contractors and law enforcement agencies are authorized to enter into agreements to implement work zone safety operations under the commission's direction.

Effective date: July 1, 2018.
